Glad you could join us for the next skeptical episode of Elliot’s Adventures. If you’re new here, you can catch up by returning to the beginning, and reading really fast…

A subdued splash announced Pierce’s arrival.
“The Queen’s buzzy little nephew said you needed help.” A bath had washed away the sour odor of Elliot’s indiscretion, but not the disappointment of the missed mission to Bog.
“Pierce! Yes, we’ve found Vernon, but he’s wounded and sick and he can’t make it back to the Hive on his own. Would you please take him back with you?”
He eyed Elliot. “How sick?”
“Not like that,” Elliot assured him. “His wound is infected and he’s feverish.”
Pierce cocked his head. “I suppose you’ll be wanting a ride as well?”
“Um, no, but thanks for asking. Actually, I haven’t had a chance to clean up yet, so if you’ll see that Vernon gets home safely, I think I’ll just stay here and take advantage of the privacy.”
“Good idea, sir.” He hopped out of the pool to lift Vernon from the lily pad.
“I really am sorry about… earlier,” Elliot stammered.
“Not everyone is cut out to be a flier,” the hawk allowed. “If that’s all you need, I’ll leave you to your bath.” He looked at Elliot from each eye, and flapped off.
Watching him leave, Elliot grabbed another wad of moss and scrubbed rather harder than he needed to.
To be continued. . .
