“Arnie!” Persephone called, “Come up from there, I have something to tell you!”

Sluggishly, the Prince paddled to the bank and dragged himself ashore. His lady love was so excited, she didn’t notice his reticence.

“I had a dream last night,” she whispered, trying not to burst from happiness.

Prince Arnie’s heart melted just a little and he managed a smile. “What was it, my love?”

“I dreamed of our first child!” She bubbled over with glee. “He was tiny and green, and he looked just like you with a tough green shell on his back. And a tail! Won’t he be precious?”

The Prince drew Persephone to him in a gentle embrace, wishing he had a tough shell to ward off the world where he could retreat with his love whenever he felt like it.

He held her at arm’s length and looked into her eyes. “We need to talk.”

  1. That drawing…so provocative! Given the ‘mixed’ social status obstacles and species parentage, poor Arnie and Persephone are truly star-crossed. Beautiful fiction depiction of the state of today’s society – still (sigh).
