Song Lyric Sunday 4

Livin' la Vida Loca
Those were the days… thank God they’re over.

Helen Espinosa’s theme this week for Song Lyric Sunday is “’90’s Music”.

That was a time when, as a single parent, I home schooled my son, earned my living as a licensed Child Care Professional, and costumed a Children’s Theater group where all the shows were Musicals. The only radio stations we listened to in the car were either Oldies (1950s , ’60s, and ’70s) or Classical.

Even so,

some of the ’90’s pop music was inescapable, and some of that filled me with deep nostalgia. To this day, Ricky Martin’s Livin’ la Vida Loca  (1999) brings back memories from a past before parenthood. A past I will never repeat. Which is probably just as well. 😉

Livin’ la Vida Loca

Lyrics from A Z Lyrics

She’s into superstitions black cats and voodoo dolls.
I feel a premonition that girl’s gonna make me fall.
She’s into new sensations new kicks in the candle light.
She’s got a new addiction for every day and night. She’ll make you take your clothes off and go dancing in the rain.
She’ll make you live her crazy life but she’ll take away your pain
like a bullet to your brain. Come On![CHORUS:]
Upside, inside out she’s livin la vida loca
She’ll push and pull you down, livin la vida loca
Her lips are devil red and her skin’s the color mocha
She will wear you out livin la vida loca Come On!
Livin la vida loca, Come on!
She’s livin la vida loca.

Woke up in New York City in a funky cheap hotel
She took my heart and she took my money
she must’ve slipped me a sleeping pill
She never drinks the water and makes you order French Champagne
Once you’ve had a taste of her you’ll never be the same
Yeah, she’ll make you go insane.

[CHORUS]

She’ll make you take your clothes off and go dancing in the rain.
She’ll make you live her crazy life
but she’ll take away your pain like a bullet to your brain. Come On!

[CHORUS]

Having survived valve repair surgery and an experimental cardiac bypass at age 5, three years before it was an accepted medical procedure, Susan grew into the size of her overworked and enlarged heart. Maybe she thought she had enough to give it away -- twice. Both times, she had to retrieve the shattered pieces and puzzle them back together. She thanks her Dad for the only advice of his she ever followed to the letter: "Never get married. Learn to take care of yourself." So of course she is a writer. Susan has co-written a YA SciFi novel, and has three more novels in various stages of evolution. She's had several short stories published in other people's anthologies, some of which were contest-related. Let her tell you a story...

  1. This song definitely fills me with nostalgia too. It was never ‘my type’ of music, either, but it played constantly in the students’ union when I was at university (1998-2001). It brings back some very happy memories. 🙂
