Seeking Refuge

Simply Marquessa hosts #FictionFriday, inviting us to respond to a song lyric prompt with a piece of fiction in any form. This week the prompt is “I’ve been all around the world and as a matter of fact, there’s only one place left I wanna go…” from Bon Jovi, Jennifer Nettles – Who Says You Can’t Go Home.

Here is my humble offering.

Ran away from home.

Mojitos and canapés,

Cruise ships and dog sleds.

Airfare, train tickets,

Fast food and bottled water.

Prodigal returns.

Ran away from home.

Molotovs and hand grenades,

Cruise missiles, drone strikes.

Sarin, terrorists,

Out of food, water poisoned.

Nowhere to return.

Author: Sue Ranscht

She thanks her Dad for the only advice of his she ever followed to the letter: "Never get married. Learn to take care of yourself." So of course she is a writer. Susan has co-written a YA SciFi novel, and has three more novels in various stages of evolution. She's had several short stories published in other people's anthologies, some of which were contest-related. Let her tell you a story...
