The column rushed forward fanning open, flowing to the sides like water round a stone as it poured into the roaring, hissing bedlam.

Barry and Trevor joined the barrier of warriors swiftly surrounding the reds and Marauders as they tore at each other in a melee so wild and unrestrained, fangs on both sides struck at anything that moved.

Edging the fray, word passed from mouth to ear to hold them in at any cost.

Knight Trevor faced Knightling Barry, eyes blazing. “The price might be our lives, my friend, but swear with me now to take more than twice that price before we leave this world. Brace yourself. Who knows? You may yet survive — I mean, look at those legs!” His laughter rang like a death knell.

One blood lusty red’s burning yellow eyes turned on Trevor. Heart pounding, spear tensed, Barry dug in against the coming impact, committed to pushing back, vowing not to let Trevor die.

The rabid beast bared its teeth, froth dripping from its lips, and crouched to spring.
